Chant d'oiseau

Exhibition April 29th and 30th 2016, 2-6pm

Opening on April 28th, 6pm

Birdsong or Chant d'oiseau is the result of one month of residency. The subject is the castle of La Chênaie located in Kortenberg, in the province of Flemish Brabant.

J.P. Cluysenaar built La Chênaie in 1841. He was one of the most known artchitec in the 19th century who built the Royal Galleries Saint-Hubert and Galleries of the Queen in Brussels. The property of about 15 hectare is in a very calm environment within a wooded parc embellished by bicentenary trees.

The castle of La Chênaie is inhabited since a year and is now for sale. It is left almost unfurnished, with only a few traces from the past. What caught my attention was the conjunction of different period of times within a same place. Some rooms look like bonding surfaces or even photo collages. These layers of time can also be felt upon the nature surrounding the castle.
